Meet the team
The choir is delighted to be led in its musical endeavours by two incredible musical talents.
Michael Wyn Jones
Musical Director
As well as singing in a number of well-respected choirs, including the BBC Symphony Chorus and the Exmoor Singers, Michael studied voice with Wynford Evans and Glyn Paul, and conducting at the Academie Internationale de Chant Choral with John Poole (formerly Musical Director of the BBC Singers), Stephen Jackson (Musical Director of the BBC Symphony Chorus) and Tecwyn Evans (Musical Director of Glyndebourne). He was also the man who held the baton at the Olympic Stadium in August 2012 before a crowd of 80,000 and a further one billion watching on television around the world.
Dafydd Chapman
Accompanist
Dafydd is studying a Master’s at the Royal Academy of Music studying Ensemble Piano under Mei-Ting Sun and James Baillieu. Originally from Cardiff, he studied with Nicola Meecham for nine years at the Junior Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he became the first recipient of the Junior Conservatoire ABRSM Scholarship, won several prizes for Solo Piano, won the Chamber Prize and the 2015 Concerto Competition. Dafydd was a semifinalist at the Gregynog Young Musician Competition and won the national Urdd Eisteddfod three times. He won the Piano Solo and the Repertoire classes at the Mid-Somerset Competitive Festival and won the Piano Concerto competition there in 2019. At the Royal Academy of Music, Dafydd has performed a wide range of chamber and ensemble repertoire, won the Harold Craxton prize and performed with Trio Arisonto. He hopes to continue to build a successful career as a chamber musician, accompanist and musical director.
